Why We Require Members to be Reformed & Confessional

(and what it means…)

We require our members to be Reformed and Confessional because we adhere to the dominion mandate, inaugurated in the Garden of Eden and reaffirmed throughout Scripture. God has called His people to take dominion, subdue the earth, and bring all things under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This calling is not merely spiritual but extends to every aspect of life, including business and commerce.

We affirm covenantal theology as our primary hermeneutic for interpreting Scripture and applying it to our lives. This theological framework recognizes God’s sovereign rule, the continuity of His covenants, and the responsibility of believers to live faithfully within those covenants. It informs how we conduct business, engage with our communities, and structure our economic dealings.

We believe that truth brings clarity, sometimes at the cost of inclusion. While many business networks emphasize broad participation, we prioritize faithfulness over numbers. Our commitment to a confessional and covenantal foundation ensures that The Reformed Business Alliance is not merely a directory but a community built on shared convictions and a unified vision for Christian engagement in the marketplace.

We are Confessional and Reformed, We Affirm the Dominion Mandate, and we are Theological Maximalists.

What It Means to Be Confessional

To be confessional means to uphold and affirm the historic creeds and confessions of the Reformed faith as faithful summaries of biblical doctrine. These confessions are not merely historical artifacts but living testimonies of the truths that have shaped the church for centuries. Throughout the history of the church, until relatively recently, creeds and confessions have widely been used to protect believers from various heresies and wrong ideas about God. They provide clarity, accountability, and a shared foundation for faith and practice, ensuring that the church remains anchored in biblical truth rather than succumbing to doctrinal drift.

Being confessional means submitting to a theological framework that is rooted in Scripture, rather than personal opinions or shifting cultural trends. It ensures doctrinal integrity and unity within the church and among those who engage in business together under a shared commitment to biblical principles.

The confessions serve as guardrails, helping believers remain faithful to God’s revealed truth, protecting against doctrinal drift, and equipping us to apply theology in all areas of life—including business. For more insight into why creeds and confessions matter, consider these resources:

How We Are Different

The Reformed Business Alliance exists to equip and connect Reformed business owners who are committed to taking dominion in their industries, bringing all things under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our directory is more than a list of businesses—it is a network of believers dedicated to godly stewardship and advancing Christ’s Kingdom through commerce.

Christian – Our faith in Christ governs every aspect of our lives and businesses. We are committed to honoring God in all we do.

Confessional – We uphold the historic Reformed confessions as faithful summaries of biblical doctrine, ensuring theological integrity in all our dealings.

Conservative – We stand on biblical truth, holding fast to principles of integrity, accountability, and righteousness in an increasingly hostile world.

Maximalist – We reject compartmentalized faith. The Gospel should shape everything, including our businesses, communities, and economic engagement. By God’s grace, we aim to build an economy where Christian businesses, churches, and non-profits thrive under the dominion of Christ.

Whether you’re encountering these concepts for the first time or revisiting them, we warmly welcome you to the rich depths of Christian doctrine. While much of the modern church has drifted from these historic foundations in an effort to attract non-Christians, a growing movement of believers is rediscovering and embracing the historic Christian faith. We are grateful to be part of this reformation and honored to carry on this tradition.
